ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG FOUNDATION
ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS FOR THE INAUGURAL ROUND OF ITS
SEED GRANT PROGRAM
Twenty emerging arts organizations receive three years of operating support as a surprise award
November 12th, 2012 (New York, NY) - The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation (RRF) has identified twenty ground-breaking small arts organizations to receive grant awards in five key geographies: Atlanta, Detroit, New Orleans, Portland, Oregon, and Providence, Rhode Island. These organizations did not apply for the grant but were identified by local cultural leaders, researched by RRF, and highlighted through this national effort to focus and support great work across the United States. The SEED grants award will provide these organizations $10,000 per year for three years in much-needed operating capital.
"There is nothing more rewarding than giving unrestricted support and providing broader recognition to deserving organizations. Robert Rauschenberg was known for supporting artists at the earliest stages in their careers in generous, surprising and unrestricted ways. This program reflects that spirit" said Christy MacLear, executive director of the Foundation.
The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation asked for nominations from organizations such as Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, MCA Detroit, Ashe Cultural Center, Arts Council of New Orleans, Regional Arts & Culture Council of Portland, AS220, and the RRF board members. This is the pilot year for the SEED grants and RRF hopes to expand to additional cities in 2013 and will rotate its nominators.
