The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Announces New Leadership Appointments

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol T. Finley to its Board of Directors. Sharon Kim has also been named Chief Collection Officer, and Kate Reibel joins as Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives, both effective June 2, 2025.

“Carol’s deep commitment to education and access in the arts combined with her demonstrated leadership in the field makes her an invaluable addition to the Board,” said Courtney J. Martin, Executive Director.  “Sharon brings expertise in art history, collections care, and legacy stewardship. Her decades of experience in both the auction and gallery worlds, combined with her strategic insight and passion for Rauschenberg’s work, make her ideally suited to guide the care, scholarship, and accessibility of our collection. At the same time, Kate has made valuable contributions to the Foundation over the past year, and we are delighted to continue our work together in this new role. I look forward to collaborating with Carol, Kate, and Sharon as we continue to expand access to Rauschenberg’s work and uphold his transformative vision during our milestone centennial year and beyond.”

Finley serves on the Board of Trustees of Dia Art Foundation, including its Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Investment Committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Advisory Council of the Department of Art and Archeology at Columbia University and a founding member of the Advisory Board/Visiting Committee Casa Muraro/Venice at Columbia. Finley oversaw the renovation of Casa Muraro and subsequently established the Finley Fellowship for Venetian Studies. She inaugurated the Galleria Finley at Casa Muraro with a Biennale exhibition in Spring 2024.

Finley has served on the Board of Overseers at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania, the Columbia Arts Access (CAA) Committee, the Board of Trustees Development Committee at Barnard College, and the Board of Directors of Lighthouse Guild.

Prior to her arts advocacy, Finley practiced real estate law at Schulte Roth & Zabel before serving as Deputy General Counsel at Tishman Speyer (TSP) and later as General Counsel at Rockefeller Center (TSP). Finley graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College and received a JD/MBA from the joint degree program at Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School.

As Chief Collections Officer, Sharon Kim will oversee all curatorial functions, manage commercial relationships, and lead the vision for stewardship, presentation, and growth of the collection. Kim has over 30 years of experience in the art world, most recently serving as Vice Chairman of Modern Art at Sotheby’s. There, she advised leading collectors and institutions on collection management and acquisition strategies, and helped place museum-quality works in significant public and private collections. Previously, she was a Partner at Richard Gray Gallery, following a 26-year tenure at Christie’s, where she held several senior roles in the Impressionist & Modern Art department and was appointed International Director in 2011.

Throughout her career, Kim has played a key role in securing historic consignments and acquisitions, including works by Constantin Brancusi, Paul Cézanne, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art History from Colgate University.

As Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives, Kate Reibel will shape and lead the Foundation’s communications strategy across all platforms and help increase the visibility and coherence of the Foundation’s presence in philanthropy, research, archives, and collection stewardship.

Reibel joins the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation with over two decades of experience in the global art market and a proven record of partnering with organizations to drive strategic planning and business development initiatives. She began her career in the Impressionist and Modern Art Department at Christie’s and more recently served as Director of Client Strategy for the Americas at Sotheby’s, where she led a department responsible for developing and implementing strategies around top art collections globally.  Since 2023, she has served as an independent advisor to a variety of commercial and non-profit arts organizations. As an advisor to the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation for the past year, Reibel has worked across the organization on all initiatives related to the artist’s Centennial, including partnerships, communications, and philanthropy.

Reibel holds a B.A. in Art History from Dartmouth College, an M.A. in Modern Art, Connoisseurship and the History of the Art Market from Christie’s Education, and an M.A. in Arts Administration from Columbia University.

About the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation
The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation builds on the legacy of artist Robert Rauschenberg, emphasizing his belief that artists can drive social change. Rauschenberg sought to act in the “gap” between art and life, valuing chance and collaboration across disciplines. As such, the Foundation celebrates new and even untested ways of thinking.

About Rauschenberg 100
Robert Rauschenberg’s (1925-2008) strong conviction that engagement with art can nurture people’s sensibilities as individuals, community members, and citizens was key to his ethos.  The Centennial celebrations seek to allow audiences familiar with him and those encountering the artist for the first time to form fresh perspectives about his art work.

A year of global activities and exhibitions in honor of Rauschenberg’s Centennial reexamines the artist through a contemporary lens, highlighting his enduring influence on generations of artists and advocates for social progress. The Centennial’s activation of the artist’s legacy promotes cross-disciplinary explorations and creates opportunities for critical dialogue.
