ROCI JAPAN (1984/1987)
A painting series made for ROCI JAPAN, part of the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange project, were exhibited at the Setagaya Museum of Art in Tokyo in 1986. Most of the works in this series were made in 1984. In 1987, Rauschenberg created two additional pieces: Wall-Eyed Carp / ROCI JAPAN, the largest work in the series, is now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., and a sculptural edition, Bamhue / ROCI JAPAN.
