Black Paintings (1951–53)

The Black Paintings were produced sporadically between 1951 and 1953. They are made with either matte or glossy-black paint, on paper or canvas, and sometimes on multiple panels. They often feature newsprint grounds that are sometimes revealed by the activated picture surfaces.
