Photem Series (1981)

Mounted onto aluminum, this series of large-scale, totemic works is comprised of Rauschenberg’s own cut and collaged black-and-white photographs taken during trips to Atlantic City, Baltimore, Boston, Charleston, Los Angeles, and Savannah, in addition to earlier photography from the 1950s. Several of the Photems were published as editions by PaceMacGill in New York in 1991.
