Pyramid Series (1974)
During this period, Rauschenberg had a particular interest in the Middle East and in the art of ancient Egypt. The title of this series relates to the Egyptian Series (1973). A corner of the gauzy fabric was laid down on a sheet of paper (with the remainder of the fabric protruding beneath the bottom edge) and a second sheet of paper of the same size was placed on top of the first. This was then laminated using a printing press, thereby creating the embossed pyramid shape of the fabric on the paper.
